While Apple believes the mainstream cares more about iPad 2 experience and feeling than feeds and speeds, Anandtech clearly favors the latter and using an array of tests, they claim they’ve deduced that — as suspected — the Apple A5 system-on-a-chip is indeed powered by an ARM Cortex A9 CPU and Imagination PowerVR SGX 543MP2 GPU. It’s also fast, beating out not only the 2010 iPad’s A4 but the 2011 Motorola Zoom‘s Tegra 2 in a number of benchmark tests. In the CPU and JavaScript render tests iPad 2 was a little faster than iOS 4.3 on iPad 1 a···
TiPb Answers: Apple A5 chip — what we know and what we guess

Just like the original iPad debuted with an Apple A4 chip, iPad 2 is coming with an Apple A5 chip. What does that mean? In typical fashion Apple has been short on details saying only that it’s dual-core, 1GHz, 2x faster for computational tasks and 9x faster for graphics, all while preserving the 10 hour battery life that made the A4 famous. They don’t think we need to worry about what CPU or GPU they’re using and how much RAM is on board to let that power breathe. But here’s the thing — many of us want to know exactly that. This is the chip ···
iPad vs iPad 2: RAM performance in Mobile Safari

As you can see from the video above, the iPad 2 using the Apple A5 chip combined with more RAM performs much better than the original iPad when browsing in Mobile Safari. If you load up all nine tabs, you’ll see that the original iPad starts to choke up pretty badly when compared to the iPad 2. This is due to the original iPad only coming with 256MB of RAM while iPad 2 comes packed with 512MB. (We hoped for as much as 1GB in the video before getting more test results back. Maybe next year!.)The original iPad tends to “kill” background tabs···

Bringing specs to an experience fight

It occurred to me recently that Apple is successfully reframing the market so their competitors look like they’re bringing specs to an experience fight. From hammering “post PC” in their iPad 2 introduction to the time spent on GarageBand and iMovie, Apple was clearly trying to not only raise expectations for what mobile devices should look and work like, but how they should be considered. They’re a feeling, an interaction, a smile, a riff, a clip. They’re jazz.2x faster, 9x better graphics, thinner, lighter. Apple said that much but beyond ···

According to an analyst, the hyped A6 processor chip will reach the iPad 3 later in 2012 than on its release date. The analyst projects that it won be until June 2012 at the earliest that we could see the rumored quad-core A6 make its way under the hood of Apple iPad 3.You may remember how Apple has recently brought on TSMC for production of their chips which could cause some yield uncertainties as well. Samsung currently manufactures the Apple A5 processor which rests in your iPad 2, but because of the ongoing legal battle and other relati···
